Your new source of music

The way we consume music has continuously changed over the years. From record players and cassette tapes, we moved on to MP3 files and the iPod. And now, with the technology getting better, we have reached the point where the majority of us get our music through streaming services. While it is not the first in the industry, Apple Music is one of the most popular services that cater to music lovers out there. This multimedia application offers millions of songs from various genres that you can listen to on-demand. It is a powerful new candidate that you need to check out if you are looking for an app that can give you as much music as you like.

The basics of Apple Music

When it comes to music streaming, the first thing that probably pops into your mind is Spotify. And who could blame you? With millions of subscribers and years ahead of its competition, you may have tried it before you thought of switching to other music providers. However, at 50 million users as of this year, Apple Music can give Spotify a run for its money. Moreover, more and more users are doing the switch, letting Apple Music gain momentum.

However, before you decide to drop the service you’re using and try Apple Music, you need to know that the app works on a subscription basis. You need to pay the monthly subscription for a standard dose of all-you-can-listen-to music. You can also opt for the family package, which gives access for up to six users. While the standard pricing is the same as its competitors, the family plan offers real value for money. A fair warning to those who will use the standard subscription, though: Don’t try using the app on more than one device at the same time because you will be instantly cut off on one of the devices.

When accessed on a web browser, Apple Music is a part of iTunes. This may immediately put you off since iTunes is an aging jukebox software, but the service is neatly integrated. Like its mobile counterparts, the web app version comes with five tabs, Library, For You, Browse, Radio, and Store. By having these options, you have the choice as to how you want to stream your music. You can either create a playlist of your favorites, let the app’s smart algorithm to pick songs that may suit your taste or search for songs that you want to hear.

Millions of songs on demand

The Apple Music library boasts a large selection of music that spans at least 50 million tracks. And while it is not as high as the number of tracks available in iTunes, it is on par with Spotify and Google Music—which, let’s face it, is its biggest rivals. With this collection of songs, which grows continuously, you can surely find your jam. And if you ever have a music library that you’re proud of, you can upload it to your iCloud music and listen to it on your Apple Music. Each user can upload up to 100,000 songs, but there are a few caveats. One, each song must not exceed 200MB. It also must not be over two hours in length. Moreover, if your library has high ALAC, AIFF, or WAV files, you’re going to lose some quality. Lastly, iCloud cannot cache any song offline, so you always need to have a stable internet connection.

Apple Music also does not give you much control as Spotify, but you can force it to deliver better-sounding streams by turning on high-quality streaming. This makes everything sound more engaging and exciting. The good news is, even though this option is not used, the sound quality is still excellent.

If you are up to listening to DJs, you can also listen to Apple Music’s internet radio for free. Yep, Apple is bringing the internet radio back, which you can now play on-demand if you miss them while they’re playing live.

Why is Apple Music very popular?

There are several reasons why Apple Music is very popular among music lovers:

  • Integration with Apple ecosystem: It is fully integrated with the Apple ecosystem, which includes iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV. This seamless integration allows users to access their music library from any Apple device without any additional setup.
  • Large music library: It boasts a library of over 75 million songs, which is one of the largest in the industry. This extensive music library allows users to discover new artists, explore different genres, and enjoy their favorite songs and albums.
  • Personalized playlists and recommendations: it uses algorithms and human curation to create personalized playlists and recommendations based on the user's listening history and preferences. This personalized approach to music discovery helps users discover new music that they are likely to enjoy.
  • High-quality audio: It streams music in high-quality audio, providing users with a superior listening experience. Additionally, the service also offers lossless and high-resolution audio options for audiophiles.
  • Exclusive content: It also offers exclusive content, such as live concerts, interviews, and documentaries, which are not available on other music streaming services.

Promising but with a few restrictions

As with a lot of Apple’s services, Apple Music is a promising program that gives you a newer option if you are tired of your old music streaming provider. The music sounds better, and you have a whole load of music to listen to. However, as it is today, the app is hobbled by irritating usability issues. It is also needlessly prescriptive and requires compromises in one area or another. Whilethere is no guarantee that this will always be the case, as long as it has major flaws, it will always lag behind its competitors.
